Maria’s story
From the age of 19 I had repeated bouts of IgA Vasculitis, an autoimmune disease which causes inflammation of the small blood vessels of the skin, joints, intestines, and kidneys. I had stage 3a kidney disease, suffered from joint pain and gastrointestinal problems.
In addition I have degenerative discs which required epidurals and nerve blocks.
By the age of 48 I was a mess. Peri menopause had kicked in, I was having another flare up, I was obese from years of medication and neglecting myself, my anxiety was through the roof and after another visit to the GP, he sent me home with antidepressants. I knew then something had to drastically change, I couldn’t carry on as I was.
Thats when, through my eldest daughter, I discovered the healing benefits of Keto. The relief I got from my stomach issues were almost immediate and I never looked back, everything began to improve both mentally and physically.
5 years later I’m off all medication, my kidney and liver function are back to within normal range, my peri symptoms are non existent, I have no requirement for HRT, I’ve not had one significant flare up since and I lost 80lb. I’ve naturally morphed from the keto diet into one that’s predominantly carnivore where I feel at my best.
This has led to a fascination on how food and lifestyle impacts health. I never imagined for a moment that my diet was actually responsible for contributing towards my autoimmune disease, diet to me had always been about whether I was fat or thin but once I put health first and began to really understand food, that’s when everything changed for the better.
I have recently been studying with the Nutrition Network becoming a Nutrition Network Advisor and completing further courses such as Women’s Health, Ketogenic: The Science and Practice of Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction, Addictive Eating and currently Metabolism and the Mind. I have also become a Volunteer Associate for The Public Health Collaboration.
Through my reading and studies I am a firm believer that by not eating a species appropriate diet we not only upset the balance of our own bodies but the balance of the planet too.
It is now my mission to share my experiences and knowledge with anyone who is willing to listen, hence setting up Regenerative Human. Everyone should have access to the information and the support they need to set them on a better path to health.
